Learning SEO 101!

Today, the entire world is on the internet, making it best to reach out to millions. But how can reach out to millions with your website? By learning SEO. So that when someone searches for you, you’re right in front of them.

In simpler terms, it is always that a person types in a query in a search engine, let’s say, google. That query is then processed by the search engine, then the results are in front of you. But how does the engine know that the website is related to the search query put in? The answer is SEO.

So, what is SEO and why is it so important?

The practice of optimizing your content in a manner such that the user traffic of the website increases, both in terms of quality and quantity. The process affects the visibility of the sites and hence makes you much more visible to the users. This is what makes SEO so important. The ability to attract a large and valuable crowd to your webpage. Bigger crowd results in a better reach to the masses, which is the end goal.

To show, they first got to know.

To show your webpage in the first place, Google has to know that the website is there. For this, they use a method called crawling. In crawling, the search engine discovers your site through numerous links over the internet and reads it. It reads all the information and then factors it into its algorithm. This is how the webpage is indexed in the search engine’s server.

Rules for SEO:

There are far too many parameters in the engine algorithm to learn and understand. But for SEO, there are a few things in our hand, they are:

  • Mobile-friendliness This is a very important aspect. With a paradigm shift of internet usage to mobile phones, the search engines have made sure to check whether the webpages are mobile-friendly or not. Because if a desktop site opens up on a phone screen, the first button that presses is back. Search engines want it to be user-friendly.
  • Keyword research– The keywords are of key importance. The keywords must be relevant. The user query is run along with the keywords, and the most relevant web pages having them are put up. These relevant articles are then ranked. But to get your webpage in search relevance, keywords are very necessary.
  • Relevant content The content must always be relevant. Not just for a higher search rank but for adding to a better user experience as well. Relevant content keeps people on your site. Relevance of the content is also adjudged when the search engine is clawing the page. The higher the relevance of the content, the better rank it would get in SERPs.
  • Loading speed It is a proven fact that slow internet is worse than no internet. So, the server being used for the webpage matters a lot. The faster the response time of the server, the faster will be the speed of the webpage loading for the user. This parameter is adjudged by search engines as well and slower loading sites are pushed back. So, remember to use a good server for your website.
  • Backlinks– The backlinks are a small but deciding factor for the page rank and content adjudgment. The backlinks act as the vote counter of the webpage. Higher are relevant backlinks, higher is the probability of taking a high spot. It allows for a great user experience as it helps to navigate the website. But again, the backlinks should always be relevant ones.

Factors like backlinks, loading speed, mobile friendliness have been of critical use in newer algorithms. The better knowledge of these topics helps in overcoming the vast competition and coming in that 1% of the web.

But also remember, no site fills and executes every single aspect and checks all the checkboxes of the search engine algorithm. The goal is to fill and execute as many aspects as possible, and as efficiently as possible.
